I
have experienced top class racing
and training in many parts of the
world. From my New Zealand
experience I learnt how important
fresh air and feeding is to a
racehorse, and I have always
placed emphasis on these aspects.
Due
to a riding accident at Newton
Abbot I had to give up my
professional jockeys licence. I
then started training in 1996 on a
small scale from my family farm in
Cornwall.
Subsequently
I moved to Somerset and am now
established in my wife’s family
farm near Crewkerne. During the
last four years we have built a
New Stable block incorporating
feed rooms, tack rooms, New wood
chip all weather gallop, installed
a walker and built a sand school.
Because
of the location of the yard within
250 acres of farmland with it’s
extensive grass gallops and 5
furlong demanding all weather
gallop acknowledged by many as
ideal we have the ability to renew
horses which have gone stale in
larger training establishments or
lost their enthusiasm.
Unlike
at major training centres these
gallops are firstly for our own
use and also the location of our
barn provides for the good
protection against virus and other
problems.
The
setting of the yard allows an
environment set around my ethos on
training that of feeding, fresh
air, cantering, schooling, resting
horses and the opportunity to
relax horses when being turned out
on a regular basis.
