I then joined David Barons as second
jockey to Paul Nicholls and
subsequently became stable jockey.
During my time there, I rode over
100 winners. Horse racing is all
about dreams and sometimes they do
materialise.
Mine did in 1991, I
was given the ride on Seagram upon
who I won the Grand National.
I was very lucky because
not every jockey has the
experience of winning this world
renowned race.
I also rode
winners in Russia and spent two
summers riding in New Zealand
during which time I rode over 20
winners for
leading trainer Kenny Brown.
I found my time spent in New
Zealand very beneficial for future
years because without a doubt,
Kenny was at that time the master
of his sport. I also spent time
with David O'Sullivan who is still
the leading flat trainer in New
Zealand having trained the winner
of the Japan Cup in Horlicks. As you can see, I
have experienced top class racing
and training and the different
methods involved in many part of
the world.
Nigel.
